Copenhagen, FEB 06, 2003 (newstodate): The four Asian/Pacific signatories behind the new air cargo portal, ACE, do not consider their move an attack on GF-X.
-We don't see any one cargo portal as operating at the exclusion of others. And we do not rule out the possibility of joining GF-X at some point in the future. Also, we would welcome airlines currently working with GF-X to join our portal once it becomes operational, says a SIA company spokesman.
-The business model developed for our portal differs from GF-X in some important aspects. In any events, we don't believe there is anything wrong with offering forwarders a greater array of choices in the way they book, track, trace, and review shipments, he says.
To the question of whether the emergence of an increasing number of cargo portals may eventually spell the doom of the very concept, he says:
-We believe the key to the success of our portal is adding value for our customers. If that added value attracts more customers, then we should be looking at more customers, not less. While we believe that greater access to portals, and a wider array of coice and competition is a good thing, the value of portals will probably be best answered by our customers.
