DEC 18, 2003 (newstodate): Greenland's Landsting has approved the inclusion in its 2004-budgets of the next stages in a project for a road between Sisimiut on the coast to Greenland's international airport at Kangerlussuaq/sdr Stromfjord.
The investments now approved are earmarked to cover continued analysis and a feasibility study to further eleborate the foundation of the project for the road that will be completed by 2008.
-I am definitely optimistic that the road will eventually be built, and it will be of enourmous benefit to the Greenlandic society, says Hermann Berthelsen, Sisimiut mayor.
With the road, Sisimiut will gain easy access to imports of commodities from Denmark and the rest of the world via flights from Copenhagen, and the region will also gain access for its fish exporters to markets now out of reach due to long transport leadtimes.
