DEC 29, 2003 (newstodate): Estonian Air, taking in its fifth Boeing 737 aircraft by February, 2004, will initially use it as a back up capacity.
Two of the airline's other Boeing 737s will undergo planned heavy maintenance at Braathens' facilities in Norway in February and March, and the fifth Boeing will thus be used as a replacement aircraft during these months, the airline says.
It still remains unsettled if Estonian Air will return of one the Boeings to the lessor in April 2004, or extend the lease agreement to cover the summer traffic period.
If the company decides to operate the 2004 summer schedule with five aircraft, this will enable to either open a new route or to add frequencies on the routes with the greatest demand like London Gatwick, Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo or other destinations.
Estonian Air is also negotiating with both producers and lessors concerning a possible new aircraft type for its fleet.
No details on this issue have yet been released.
