DEC 15, 2003 (newstodate): Kazakh airline Air Astana has launched its new route betwen Almary and London.
The route will be operated twice weekly with a Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
The Kazakh vice minister of transport and communication told press that his is only the first step towards making Air Astana a company of international ranking.
From next week already, Air Astana will add another route from Almaty to Seoul, and routes to a range of destinations including Almaty-Astana-Frankfurt, Atyrau-Amsterdam, Uralsk-Amsterdam, and Astana-Amsterdam are also in the pipeline.
Air Astana further plans to introduce four ATR-42 aircraft by March, 2004.
With 550 employees, Air Astana operates three Boeing 737 700/800s and two 757-200s.
Flights to Hanover, Istanbul and Bangkok commenced with the addition of the first Boeing 757 in October 2003. The second 757 was acquired this week.
Air Astana, launched in September 2001, is a joint venture owned 51 percent by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and 49 percent by BAE Systems Customer Solutions & Support.
