DEC 16, 2003 (newstodate): Aeroflot will need up to 30 regional aircraft to replace the fleet of ageing Tu-134 that do not comply with EU noise regulations.
According to Russian press reports, Aeroflot has urged the government to ease the taxation on Western-built aircraft that currently accrues to 40 percent on the acquisition price.
The replacement within two or three years of the Tu-134 is needed to facilitate the planned Aeroflot expansion in passenger volumes from six to 12 million by 2010.
The Russian regional aircraft currently under developent, the An-148 is still several years from being introduced in the market.
