NOV 21, 2003 (newstodate): SAS has contracted Zenitel to provide a total solution to its integrated communications needs in Copenhagen Airport.
The contract between SAS and Zenitel was signed in June this year, Zenitel early applied for and has obtained the required frequencies from the Danish authorities, the equipment has passed the factory test, the infrastructure will be in place by December, and the cut-off date from the existing communications system will be April 1, 2004, by which time an initial batch of 500-650 users will be fully implemented, Zenitel says.
-Two main objectives motivated SAS' decision to implement the TETRA communications solution: optimisation of airport work processes, and the quest for cost-saving measures, says Henrik Jacobsen, Zenitel sales manager projects & systems.
With the new digitized voice and data communications system, SAS will gain full access to direct communication with all staff around each specific ground handling task across departmental or company boundaries, and in addition the system grants a wide range of administrative and managerial benefits facilitating optimization of processes and resources.
Migration to the Tetra system also warrants lower operational and maintenance costs.
Plans are to expand the system now being established in Copenhagen Airport, SAS' main traffic hub, to its other bases at Oslo and Stockholm within a single, integrated communications environment.
The Zenitel-solution, with a capacity of integrating 10,000 terminals, is the first comprehensive Tetra-based communications system to be implemented in an airport environment.
Zenitel is responsible for providing the Tetra infrastructure at the airport, developing the software solutions, and delivering the mobile phone units.
