NOV 06, 2003 (newstodate): Norway's parliament is to decide on a plan to reduce the number or air traffic control centres from today's four to just one.
Air traffic in Norway's airspace is currently controlled by centres in Bodoe, Vaernes, Stavanger, and Oslo Gardermoen. Under the proposed plan, only Oslo will survive in the future.
The objectives to be achieved by the proposed reorganization of Norway's ATM are enhanced safety, and reduced costs.
Norwegian CAA, Avinor, has to reduce its budgets for next year by NOK 400 million, driving an intense cost-savings campaign also inluding considerations on a possible reduction of the number of airports in Norway, and lay-off of some 700 staff.
