NOV 03, 2003 (newstodate): Martinair is seeing a strong upturn in the Danish market in 2003, despite a generally weak market development.
-For the period January-September, we have seen an increase at 43 percent in total tonnages out of Denmark, says Jacob Bo Jepsen, Kales Airline Services, which is Martinair's GSA in Denmark.
-The increase started in spring and has gained momentum over the period, primarily thanks to Martinair's US destinations Chicago and Atlanta, which are very much in demand as to Danish exports, and the airline's strong set-up in China, with five weekly flights into Hong Kong, and two weekly flights for Nanjing/Shanghai, he says.
-As the market has been weakening over the year, Martinair has clearly gained in market share, says Jepsen.
Martinair's export shipments are trucked from Copenhagen and Billund airports into the hub at Amsterdam, requiring some 10-12 hours of trucking time.
