NOV 03, 2003 (newstodate): With effect from January 1, 2004, Lufthansa Cargo is scrapping its "e for free" charge of five euros per air waybill.
The "e for free" charge was introduced to boost customer use of electronic channels. It has been levied for a year on all td.Flash shipments and, additionally since April 2003, on all td.Pro shipments ex Germany that are booked conventionally by phone, fax or email instead of online through electronic channels.
The lifting of the fee is prompted by high customer acceptance of electronic booking options, such as GF-X, the Internet or Traxon.
In Germany, electronic bookings accounted for about 40 per cent of the total in September 2003.
Prior to the "e for free" charge levied in October 2003, the percentage was only 14 per cent.
