NOV 28, 2003 (newstodate): Lithuanian airport, Siauliai has gone bankrupt, industry sources claim.
The airport is reportedly to resurface under a new name, Siauliu Oro Uostas, freed of its former debts.
The airport is exected to return to joint military/civilian ownership allowing it to operate Stage II-aircraft even after the country's admission into the EU from May next year.
The airport was a Russian air base during the cold war period, but has been comprehensively renovated and modernised as part of an EU infrastructure project.
Officially inaugurated in 1997, Siauliai International Airport is CAT I and operates two 3,500 m runways without any curfew.
