NOV 12, 2003 (newstodate): Tomorrow, Lufthansa Cargo will join the annual round-the-world race for delivering Beaujolais.
From Lyons, the wine will be trucked to Frankfurt, Munich and Cologne airports for flights to the USA, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
This year, Lufthansa Cargo will be responsible for transporting more than 850 tonnes of Beaujolais Nouveau.
54 trucks will take a total of 210 pallets into Germany, from where the wine embarks on its global journey. Apart from the USA, 160 tonnes are destined for Japan, 90 tonnes for Korea and 30 tonnes for Taipei.
The bulk will fly in the bellyholds of Lufthansa passenger aircraft, but to satisfy the Japanese demand, Lufthansa Cargo Charter will supply the Japanese market with an additional 200 tonnes on two charter flights from Frankfurt to Osaka.
