NOV 17, 2003 (newstodate): While relief flight operations to Iraq has come to a virtual stand-still, Danish specialised forwarder, Mah's flights to Kabul continue at unchanged levels.
-Due to the high security risks in Iraq and the subsequent withdrawal of most UN and NGO activities in Baghdah, we see almost no relief flights into the city now, says Jorgen Jessen, Mah Freight relief cargo manager.
UN and NGO staff have temporarily relocated to Amman, Jordan, and shipments are thus flown there instead for onward distribution by road to Iraq, albeit in reduced volumes.
-As for Afghanistan, we are continuing our bi-weekly IL-76 operations into Kabul from Billund Airport where loads are consolidated from a wide range of forwarders and shippers, Jessen says.
The "Kabul Express" has been operating now for more than half a year, taking loads from NGOs and other agencies destined for Kabul.
