NOV 06, 2003 (newstodate): Iceland has offered to take responsibily for managing a range of functions at Kabul Airport.
If the offer is accepted, Iceland's involvement would probably start by next year, an Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman says.
The management positions rotate among NATO members, and Germany is currently providing the services at Kabul.
According to the spokesman, the services comprise management of ATM, flight technical department, fire services and other aspects of airport management, and Iceland would be prepared to make 10 persons available to NATO for the project.
Iceland is currently responsible on similar terms for managing Pristina Airport within the NATO engagement there.
