NOV 25, 2003 (newstodate): On Wednesday, November 26, Danish freight forwarding company, Prime Cargo will receive its "own" chartered freighter at Billund Airport.
The Russian IL-96 will fly 48 tonnes of textiles from Taiyuan, China, to Billund, including import shipments for Prime Cargo and other textile customers.
-It is rather unusual for us to operate an own chartered freighter, but we are driven by the lack of capacity on ex-China commercial aircraft, says Jacob T. Bruhn, Prime Cargo manager.
Bruhn says there is now a heavy imbalance between sky-rocketing outbound rates from China, and very low inbound rates.
-As outbound rates from China have reached a very high level, operating an own chartered freighter has actually become a viable option, Bruhn says.
Working on a consolidation basis with other importers, Prime Cargo is planning for at least one more ex-China chartered freighter later this season.
