NOPV 13, 2003 (newstodate): Russian airlines' fleet of an estimated 1,500 long-range commercial airliners may be facing a cut in the future.
According to press reports, Alexander Zubarov, of the Aeroflot board chairman told a round-table meeting of the Russian Federation Council that the fleet of long-range airliners could be drastically reduced to reflect the actual size of the market, and the currently weak demand.
Zubarov said the utilization of the avarage airlner was now only 5.5 hours per day, and most of the aircraft were already obsolete by today's standards.
