OCT 15, 2003 (newstodate): Lithuanian Airlines plans to increase its production with the introduction of the new winter program, taking effect from October 26.
With the new program, the airline will offer services to 13 destinations and increase traffic to a number of destinations.
Both London and Amsterdam will thus be served from Vilnius 10 times per week, up from the current seven weekly flights.
During the winter season Lithuanian Airlines will suspend its flights to Paris and Madrid, the latter operated as a code-share service with the Spanish airline Iberia.
The airline however stresses that the suspensions are temporary only, and the routes will be reinstated from the next summer program by March 28.
Talks are now underway to seek possibilities for entering code-share agreement on the Paris-route with other carriers via either Copenhagen, Prague, or Amsterdam, an airline source says.
During the first nine months of this year Lithuanian Airlines carried 53,005 passengers on its route to Amsterdam, up 24,3 percent on last year.
During the same period the airline performed a total of 2,856 regular flights carrying 216,000 passengers, an increase in passenger volumes by 10.7 percent over 2002.
In September, Lithuanian Airlines operated 344 regular flights and carried 27,737 passengers, up 10.7 percent on September 2002
