OCT 31, 2003 (newstodate): Swedish airport, Oerebro Airport reports sustained operations with IL-76 aircraft totalling 10-12 operations so far in 2003.
-We can still obtain local government exemptions from the EU ban on commercial flights with Stage 2-aircraft, which allows us to operate the IL-76 for both relief and commercial flights, says Hakan Nilsson, Oerebro Airport cargo manager.
According to Nilsson some four IL-76 flights are currently in the pipeline before Christmas, and the commercial flights are mainly lifting export shipments from Ericsson and Volvo.
Due to Oerebro's geographical position in mid-Sweden, the airport is seeing an increasing volume of ad-hoc charter flights, exceeding 200 operations this year, with aircraft types ranging from AN-12 to Boeing 747 freighters.
-We have also had 15 flights with AN-124 aircraft, and we expect this year's total tonnage to reach about 20,000 tonnes, which is more or less the same as last year, despite DHL's termination of operations at the airport, says Hakan Nilsson.
