OCT 07, 2003 (newstodate): During the first eight months of 2003, Lithuanian Airlines carried 189,000 passengers, an increase of 10.7 percent, year-on-year.
The average number of passengers per scheduled flight was 75 during January-August, up 8.7 percent on last year.
In August, the airline carried 29,100 passengers, up 20 percent against last year.
-Lithuanian Airlines is thus doing pretty well, and we do not foresee much change after SAS' recent acquisition of Estonian Air, says Giedrus Sniukas, Lithuanian Airlines PR officer.
-Estonian Air was our competitor even before the acquisition. The real challenge will come when we face the full competition in the air travel market after our entry into the EU next year, he says.
