OCT 23, 2003 (newstodate): On October 28, fledgling new budget airline Air Arabia will perform its first commercial flight out of Sharjah.
With three departments of the Sharjah government as shareholders, the airline will initially be operating three new leased Airbus A320 aircraft from Sharjah to Muscal, Bahrain, Qatar, Beirut, Aman, Damascus, Shiraj, Isfahan, Tehran and Cairo. Plans are to add routes to South Asian destinations as well, including Colombo from December.
Air Arabia will be the first discount airline in the region.
