OCT 27, 2003 (newstodate): Finnair and Swedish provider of crew pairing and management systems, Carmen have demonstrated strong results from a joint project, Crescendo, launched in august.
The aim of the project was to bring out business benefits from the system as early as possible to "finance" the remaining project.
The first major goal was to publish pairings for the A320/MD80 cabin fleet in just three weeks. The new pairing solutions provided seven percent savings on direct costs, including compensation for overtime, allowance and hotels, from the first month. The team also proved the long-term savings after dimensioning crew resources against production to be six percent of total crew costs.
-Thanks to a dedicated effort from both parties, Finnair's bottom line will benefit from considerable savings. The return on investment will be shorter than four months, and the system will produce cost reductions from day one, says Ville Iho, Finnair Assistant VP Crew Resources.
