OCT 30, 2003 (newstodate): FedEx has now started using Almaty Airport as a technical stop for fuelling on the route between Hong Kong and Paris.
The FedEx aircraft departed from Hong Kong with 286 tonnes of aircargo with six hours flying time to Almaty. The flight to Paris is one hour longer. Using the technial stop at Almaty enables the company to operate the flights with full loads.
- During the last two years we have been able to attract cargo companies like KLM and El-Al. And we will continue. We are now negotiating with other leading world-known companies like Air-France and Austrian Airlines, which are interested in our airport, says Alexander Gordeyev, International Airport of Almaty VP.
