OCT 21, 2003 (newstodate): Eurocontrol is advising the Norwegian CAA, Avinor, on the feasibility of reducing the number of control centres from today's four to only two in the future.
The reduction of control centres is part of a deep-going cost savings campaign currently comprising all Avinor activities, and including massive staff redundancy, and a political decision on a reduction of the number of airports to be maintained in the future within the given budget restraints.
The proposed new structure would comprise two control centres to serve Norway north and north of Trondheim, respectively.
Eurocontrol provides assistance in analysing the situation and performing simulations of various models under study, Avinor sources tell newstodate.
