OCT 17, 2003 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's Almaty International Airport will start operations in December.
After several years of construction work, and recurrent delays in the plans, the work will be basically completed in November after which staff training remains before the eventual opening to the travelling public.
Among the new facilities at the airport is a British-manifactured air cargo mobile X-ray screening device, the only one in the CIS region.
