Copenhagen, JAN 24, 2003(newstodate): Post Denmark is preparing for a tough battle over letters as EU liberalization took a further step from January 1.
The postal monopoly now comprises only letters below 100 g, against 250 g till now.
-Our competitors are undoubtedly preparing to move accordingly, says Helge Israelsen, Post Denmark C.E.O.
-So far we have been able to generate a revenue at one billion Danish Kroner from letters above 250 g. From now we must fight to generate another billion in the 100-250 g letter segment, in full competition in a letter market totalling about seven billion Danish Kroner in value.
Israelsen says the ultimate ordeal will start by 2006 when the postal monopoly is further limited to letters in the segment below 50 g.
