Total air cargo throughput in 2002 was 8,478 tonnes, against 9,547 tonnes in 2001.
Kaunas International Airports claims, however, to have retained its position as the leading cargo airport in the Baltic region. In 2001, the airport had 39 percent of all airfreight in the region, against Riga Airport's 22, Vilnius Airport's 20, and Tallinn Airport's 19 percent, according to Ruta Dalinskiene, Kaunas Airport marketing manager.
