Copenhagen, JAN 17, 2003 (newstodate): According to AllAfrica, the Kenyan government has pledged to boost security at all airports in the country.
In a speech during the re-launch of El Al Israel Airline and Cargo Airlines Limited (CAL), Kenyan transport and communications Minister, John Michuki, said the aviation industry is crucial to economic growth.
-Kenya is generally a safe country with regard to aviation transport. The recent terrorist attack in Mombasa should be considered an isolated incident that should not give the impression that the country is unsafe, he said.
Michuki said the Government was willing to work with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the Kenya Airports Authority ( KAA) and other relevant organs to improve security.
-Kenya will continue to support measures implemented by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and comply with its standards, he said.
Eilat Kessler, second secretary at the Israeli embassy, said Kenya remains the central location for air cargo distribution for countries in the rest of the continent.
According to the Israeli secretary, cargo shipment from Israel had increased to 60,000 tonnes per annum.
