Mar 19, 2018 (newstodate): Ukraine and Slovakia are renewing shared interest in the Ukrainian Uzhgorod International Airport, on the Trans-Carpathian border between the two countries.
Formerly an air force base, the airport has long been out service, but efforts have repeatedly been made to revive traffic and find a role for the airport after reconstruction.
Already in 2010, Uzhgorod Airport that lies across the border with Slovakia, was considered a venue serving as a new entry point for ex-China exports to Europe, including EU markets.
The airport has no current traffic and is in a bad shape, requiring extensive modernization to meet current standards.
In another fresh move to get the project on the agenda again, the Slovak company Vedecko-vyskumna, A.C. is now interested in obtaining the concession of Uzhgorod Airport, aiming at setting up flights between Bratislava and Uzhgorod, continuing to Kiev, with future plans to add flights from Uzhgorod to Budapest, Vienna, and Prague.
