Feb 20, 2018 (newstodate): With the delivery of an Airbus A320neo in 2019, the Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways will need new hangar infrastructure at Vagar Airport.
The carrier will receive its new aircraft in March 2019, acquired on a long-term lease agreement with the US leasing company Air Lease Corporation.
The wingspan of the A320neo is, however, 1.7m longer than the current A320 aircraft now used by Atlantic Airways, driving the need for a new hangar solution.
-We are actually already looking into this issue while no plans have yet been finalized, says Johanna a Berghi, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-Different models are under discussion, and we will negotiate with Vagar Airport about how to proceed and finance the costs.
-But a new hangar would also provide more space for our current activities including the technical servicing of three Airbus aircraft including two A320-200 and one A319-100, and two helicopters.
-The current set-up is fully capable of handling these tasks, but a new hangar and workshop infrastructure would definitely be an asset for us, says Ms A Berghi.
