Jan 18, 2018 (newstodate): Close to a decision to announce a stop of production of the Airbus A380 after years without new orders, the aircraft manufacturer has secured a life-line for the large commercial aircraft.
Airbus has thus announced today the signing of a MoU with Emirates for up to 36 additional A380 aircraft.
The commitment is for 20 A380 and an option for 16 more aircraft with deliveries to start in 2020.
The fresh order by Emirates will secure the production of the Airbus A380 for another 10 years and breathe new life into the ailing program.
To date, 222 A380 aircraft have been delivered to 13 Airlines, with Emirates reigning supreme among customers with existing orders for a total of 142 out of 317 aircraft.
In service with Emirates are now 101 Airbus A380 aircraft.
