Sep 20, 2017 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport has secured a position as one of the five fastest-growing airports in the European airport group with the number of passengers served between five and 10 million per year.
According to information gathered by the Airports Council International, ACI, Riga Airport increased the number of passengers by 16.2 percent in July 2017, well above the average of 9.6 percent.
And the steep growth continued into August as well as Riga Airport handled a total of 644,800 passengers, up 15.3 percent, y-o-y.
During January-August 2017, the number of passengers through Riga Airport has thus increased by almost 11 percent.
airBaltic is the largest air carrier at Riga Airport with a market share at 53.5 percent, followed by Ryanair with 15 percent and Wizzair with 8.8 percent of the market.
A total 17 passenger carriers operate flights from Riga Airport, including airBaltic, Ryanair, WizzAir, Aeroflot, SAS, Finnair, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Lufthansa, LOT Polish Airlines, Utair, Turkish Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines, RusLine, Uzbekistan Airways, Belavia, Ellinair and Smartlynx Airlines.
