May 26, 2017 (newstodate): Work is progressing on construction of a new passenger terminal at Simferopol Airport, in Crimea.
The new terminal is scheduled for commissioning in time for the summer 2018 tourist season, with half of the construction works already completed.
With the new infrastructure, the airport will be capable of handling up to 6.2 mio passengers annually.
This year, the airport expects passenger volumes to be more or less at last year's level of 5.2 mio passenger.
The airport has no international traffic as the Russian take-over of the Ukrainian peninsula is still not recognized by almost the entire world, rendering international flights unlawful.
In the meantime, Ukraine is expected soon to bring the issue of control over the Crimean part of the Black Sea airspace before ICAO as it still considers the Crimea to be under country's jurisdiction.
