Aug 25, 2015 (newstodate): Poland is soon to commission its latest new airport, Szczytno-Szymany International Airport, a former military air force base.
The final procedures for certification of the airport have been agreed with the country's Civil Aviation Authority and expectations are that the airport will be able to receive its first commercial aircraft very soon.
Equipped with a 2,500m runway and a passenger terminal with capacity of handling 500 passengers per hour, the airport sees its future with charter operators as well as carriers serving the industrial complex in the Mazurian region.
According to a recent study on behalf of the airport, both Oslo and Copenhagen are among the potential destinations for future scheduled air traffic at the airport.
