Feb 04, 2025 (newstodate): The Polish carrier LOT is now abandoning its vision to build up neighboring Hungary's Budapest Airport as its second base.
Starting from March 26, 2025, LOT will thus discontinue its rotations between Budapest Airport and Seoul in South Korea, currently served with two weekly Boeing 787 flights, and shelving earlier plans for going back to four weekly services in the coming summer 2025 program.
LOT performed its inaugural flight between Budapest and Seoul on September 23, 2019, alongside its direct flights to Seoul from its home turf at Warsaw Airport since October 17, 2016
The driver for opening long-haul and European routes from Budapest was primarily the inadequacy of potentials for expansion at Poland's Warsaw Airport.
Another driver, however, was ambitions by LOT to secure a presence at Budapest Airport to emerge as a successor to Hungary's earlier national carrier Malev that folded its wings early in 2012 with Martin Gauss, now airBaltic CEO, at the helm.
